Why IEEE Congress in Sri Lanka?

The IEEE Sri Lanka Section, for the 8th consecutive year, is getting ready to present the Sri Lankan IEEE enthusiasts with yet another great episode of the Sri Lanka Section Student / Young Professional / Women in Engineering Congress for the year of 2019.

This is undoubtedly the most awaited event of the IEEE Sri Lankan section where Student Branches, Young Professionals, and Women in Engineering share their achievements to receive the public endorsement and inspire others.

Starting in 2012, it has been a long journey in bringing the Congress to the stratum it now enjoys, and the section expects to reap more and more with each year. This year the Congress is themed on “Disruptive Innovation for a Green Future” and to facilitate the theme, SLSYWC19 will span over three days a lot more experiences, memories, and inspiration.

Hands-on Experiences

Going beyond the technology this is the one of the major event for the IEEE’ans and Non IEEE’ans who are in the technical community and interested on IEEE, to have a blast with lot more experiences.

IEEE SLSYW Congress this year is working in collaboration with IEEE Innovations Nations Sri Lanka. So this will be the most exciting IEEE congress so far. There will be be local and foreign delegates by allowing you the chance to integrate with Students,Young Professionals and Women in Engineering all over the world.

The paths we follow

Student Track

Designed for Undergraduates & Students

The student members of the Sri Lanka section are currently operating under nine Student Branches and more are taking initiatives to establish their own Student Branches. The number of student members making their presence in the IEEE community keep piling up everyday.

During the congress you get the chance to enroll with students who are representing various universities. If you are not a still not a student IEEE member yet there you get the chance to clarify more details and the benefits of being an IEEE student member. You get the chance to interact with the Executive members of various IEEE Student branches.

So if you are a student member come and join with the student track to have a blast with all. If you are not a student member yet, no need of worrying you also can enjoy the event!


Young Professionals Track

Specialized for Post Graduates

The Sri Lankan Young Professional community is rich with passionate Engineers, Scientists and Technical Experts who love what they do. They are intent on doing what’s best for the community and themselves. Every year young professionals are making a blast in the YP track. So in this year it may be doubled and you may get the chance to collect much more unforgettable memories there.

You get the chance to interact with YP’s Island wide and only only that you may get the chance to interact with the foreign yp’s who get participate for the congress. If you are interesting in join with IEEE as a Yp this will be a great opportunity for you to get more details about the YP track.


Women in Engineering Track

Designed for Girls & Energetic Women in Engineering

A community of women and enthusiastic men that takes initiative in bringing out the passion for technology in women. They conduct lots of workshops and gatherings for the benefit of women in technology. Young students are also operating as a part of this affinity group under their respective Student Branches.

As usual this time also the Women In Engineering track will be more interesting with the presence of Sri Lankan section WIE members and foreign members too.

So are you are women engineer? Here is the most prestigious chance for you to meet other energetic young women engineers, interact with them and have a wonderful moment.

Wayamba University of Sri Lanka (WUSL) is one of the latest and modern learning and research institutions in Sri Lanka which located in just 60km away from Colombo.

Wayamba University are different from others as it offers students much more than a mere educational qualification. Curricular of the University aim at providing students a total holistic approach to one of a kind educational experience that enables them to achieve career goals along with creativity and innovativeness.

Wayamba University is located at two premises- Kuliyapitya and Makandura with easy access from Colombo, Kurunegala, and Kandy. The two locations are situated in an ideal environment with food and agribusiness, and industrial and commercial activities. The University has established links with national and regional industries, business establishments, research institutes and government and non-government organizations. The University has initiated several research activities with industry collaborations.

This year, the Congress will be held at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

All transportation during the Congress will be provided by the team, expect for the arrival and departure.

Accomodations will be provided at the venue on sharing basis. You don't have to worry about finding a cosy place to stay for all three days.

IEEE Student, Young Professionals, Women in engineering Congress is a community event intended for learning, collaboration, and engagement in the IEEE community. We value the participation of each member of the developer community and want everyone involved to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

Also, IEEE SYW Congress committee is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone.

Accordingly, all speakers, volunteers and participants are expected to show respect and courtesy to others throughout the event. To be brief, all participants, volunteers, and speakers in the event are required to conform to the following Code of Conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event.

Be respectful, be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other attendees. Behave professionally. Remember that harassment and racist, sexist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate for this event and will not be tolerared.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Be thoughtful In the spirit of education and inclusiveness. There might be minors participating in the event. Keep this in mind when speaking.

Be open, we welcome attendees from all backgrounds. This event is about increasing the overall amount of learning, partnership, and engagement in the developer community.
